The first and most obvious shape for a rug is the rectangle. Rectangular rugs have always been the most popular rug shape. The reason is that the majority of rooms (and therefore floor spaces) are rectangular is shape so a rectangular rug provides the best fit. This is likely to be the case for most rooms in your home.
