Choosing Your Rug Shape
Aug 26
Rugs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Choosing the right shape is important, so how do you know which one is right for you? We review the different rug shapes on offer and provide some guidance on where each style fits best.
The first and most obvious shape for a rug is the rectangle. Rectangular rugs have always been the most popular rug shape. The reason is that the majority of rooms (and therefore floor spaces) are rectangular is shape so a rectangular rug provides the best fit. This is likely to be the case for most rooms in your home. Because rectangular rugs are the most popular this means that there is an absolutely huge selection in terms of designs, colours, materials and sizes. Our website alone features more than 5000 rectangular rugs to choose from.
With the latest rug production techniques having a rectangular rug does not necessarily mean that you have to have 4 straight edges. For a contemporary twist on a rectangular shaped rug take a look at our innovative Borker rugs. This range features a number of designs which have the sides of the rug shaped to match the design. For example the ‘Flower’ rug is cut out around the flower petals in the design and our most popular design the ‘Stones’ is shaped around each stone on the edge. Not only does this give these rugs more impact but also makes them more interesting and unique than a standard rectangular rug, although they are definitely for the more daring person.
Another shape to consider is a square rug. Square rugs are not just ideal for square shaped rooms and square floor spaces, they can also act as a great focal point underneath a table. Whilst the number of designs and sizes are quite a bit more limited than rectangular rugs, you will still find a good selection. Our online shop has a range of plain square rugs from beiges to purples in our Karma range. There are also superb contemporary designs, our favourites are the designs in the RO2 range which combine striking designs with a fantastic blend of colours. There is also a choice of wool or synthetic fibres, and sizes up to 180cm square. Custom sizes are also on offer within all of our square rug ranges if you need to go bigger.
A similar effect can also be achieved with a round rug which is ideal for a round or square flooring spaces or for putting under a table. The past two years have seen a big increase in the sales of round rugs, which has lead to manufacturers producing a wider variety of new designs to cater for this market. Our website now offers a very large range of round rugs in contemporary, traditional and shaggy styles. A couple of our most popular ranges currently include the Matrix round rugs with their fashionable modern designs, and also the Twilight round shaggy collection which contains a large choice of plain colours with a thick soft pile. Round rug sizes range up to 2 meters in diameter and like our other rugs custom sizes are available on most ranges.
The final shape to look at is hallway runners. Runners are not just great for your hallway, they also have other uses within your home. They can be used throughout other corridors as well as long narrow landing areas. Hall runners can also be used width ways in front of your sofa where space may be limited, adding underfoot comfort to your seating area. Again our online rug store has a large number of hallway runner designs to suit almost any décor style as well as many different standard lengths and made to measure lengths.
So, now you know that you are not just restricted to a standard rectangular shape you can widen your options and maybe find something that is even better suited to your room. Or you may now realise that you can put a rug in a floor space that you never thought of before.
