Last month we were on the hunt for some remarkable people within the local community. And after a thorough search, we are delighted to have crowned Ken Sadler of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham’s Unsung Hero 2014.
We invited charities from across the region to nominate dedicated staff and volunteers to receive the red carpet treatment. Five finalists were selected and the public asked to vote for the person they believed deserved the title and a luxury experience day worth £200.
Although all five nominees were truly inspirational, Ken walked home with the title and treat after receiving the most public votes.
Mr Sadler was nominated by other volunteers at Lifeline Community Action, a Christian charity which helps people of all faiths and background in times of crisis.
In just over a year he has helped the team support over 2,500 people and distribute over £750,000 to people in need. Amongst other things Ken distributes care packages and takes people on holiday, despite suffering with his own health.
On finding out the result Ken explained that, “it has all come as a total surprise!” And went on to thank everyone who had voted for him along with the rest of the hard working Lifeline Community Action Team. He also extended his congratulations to all the other nominees.
We hope that Ken enjoys his well-deserved luxury experience day and that he and all the other nominees get the recognition they deserve!
